Verrieres

With 321 inhabitants in 2022, Verrieres isn’t a Grande Champagne metropolis like Segonzac (2093 inhabitants) or Chateaubernard (3793 inhabitants).

But this small hamlet owns gentle grassy slopes, a bit like green blankets on massive chalky rocks.

Starting from the lowest part, alongside the Ne River (Charente’s affluent), and climbing in the direction of Saint-Preuil, these hills are among the most planted in the whole Cognac area.

IMHO, I’d say that Verrieres gives fresh and bright eau-de-vie. Until 35/45yo, it remains incredibly sharp but with stunning exotic notes. Then, from 50 to 70yo, it tends to be way more vivid than expected. Finally, like some other privileged terroirs, it gives elegant cognacs.
