GOTA FRANÇOIS VOYER LOT 85 53,7%
Verrieres again
The 1985 harvest in Grande Champagne was small, but it was a good vintage in terms of quality. 38yo, 53,7%. Let’s go!
Colour: Amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: What a kind of fresh nose! 85? Really! That’s Verrieres’ magic touch. Unique terroir, always giving a thrilling and insolent cognac profile. Poached pear, apricot stew. Mad nose. Star anise. Licorice. Great honey shades. Quince jam. Apple strudel. Insolent I said!
Palate: Oily texture. Mouthwatering acidulous notes at first. Chalky GC shades, as you can feel a sharp profile in the aftertaste. Quince tart. Cooked plums. Hints of gingerbread notes too.
Last Notes: Great breakfast tea notes. Everything is delivered with precision in this « young » GC (38yo, just kidding right?). Bright malted tones, reminding me of Waterford, with this great mix of rich cereal notes and Port/Sherry/Fortified wines shades brought by cask blends. Delicate plum eau-de-vie scents. And what a great palate again. Marzipan, hazelnut cream. Nice richness.
Pure bliss. Easy winner. Another insolent kind of 30- 40yo GC. Fresh, vivid, fruity. I only miss a bit of depth to go higher than 91.
My very subjective note: 90+/100
