Danis again

Danis again. But no Folle Blanche is involved in this recipe. This 1978 vintage is a mix of Baco and Ugni Blanc,  and it was bottled in 2022. 42yo. 46%. Let’s go!

Colour: Amber with orange lights. Medium, irregular tears.

Nose: Heady floral notes at first, mainly violet and orange blossom. An unusual touch of modeling clay, something you occasionally find in certain Caroni bottlings (like the Green Employee “Roopnarine Roop Toolsie”). Precious wood nuances follow, along with fresh spices on white pepper and cardamom. The oak feels well integrated.

Palate: Oily texture. Ample vanilla notes with a clear Bourbon-like tone, reminiscent of some 1970s Domaine de La Poste (Ténarèze) Armagnacs from Darroze. Cooked plum and prune cake aromas. A round palate, finishing on rustic shades and a gentle warmth.

Last Notes: Delicate violet perfume returns, joined by subtle nutty tones. Slightly calvados-y, with rustic apple aromas. Hints of coconut powder as well, with a touch more oak presence than the nose suggested.

A convincing Armagnac, less atypical than the 1986 but almost equally enjoyable. Balanced, floral, and well-structured, with an appealing mix of delicacy and rustic charm.

My very subjective note: 87+/100
