Presented as a new release during Whisky Live, this Vallein Tercinier L86 comes from the Bons Bois terroirs around Chermignac, close to the family estate. Let’s see what this new Bons Bois has to offer.

Colour: Amber with golden lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Vividly fruity, opening on peach pie and raw plum. Heady citrus notes linger in the background. The “Bois” DNA is distinct, with its rustic edge, yet there’s an uncommon refinement to it. This vitality and fruit-forward expression recalls their VT46 blend. Great freshness on cardamom and menthol, wrapped in smooth oak tones with a subtle Bourbon-like sweetness.

Palate: Zesty attack with a pleasant texture. Obvious oak influence, showing aromas of coconut powder and light pepper. Freshness appears again with menthol and eucalyptus, just as the nose suggested. Excellent mouth length, lifted by a bright acidity on the top of the palate, where a delicious grapefruit note shines through. An insolent mix of youthful energy and rustic charm.

Last Notes: With air, it becomes slightly rum-like, evoking the fruitiness of Worthy Park. Nice malty and nutty shades on crushed almond and caramelized walnut. Dry floral and heathery notes follow, hay, potpourri,  before a smooth finish on marzipan and amaretto.

A surprising expression of Bons Bois, showing remarkable balance between rusticity, acidity and roundness. Distinctive, expressive and full of charm.
