LATERRADE MOUNEGEAT 1995 45,7%
Another kind of BA
Another Laterrade bottling, but this time from a Bas-Armagnac estate. I don’t have that much info about Mounegeat, except that they are located in Houga and are known for producing with Baco and Colombard grapes. Let’s go!
Colour: Dark amber with golden lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Full of chocolate and toffee notes at first. Opulent caramel sweets, with resinous undertones and a mix of Christmas spices. Pleasant and warm, though the oak influence feels slightly dominant. Curious to see how the palate unfolds.
Palate: Oily texture, showing acidulous tones of tangerine juice and mango. A touch of herbal notes, mainly parsley and thyme. Powerful oak presence, with brand-new wood and dry cellar impressions, leading to a sharp, woody rancio.
Last Notes: Hints of fresh coconut milk and heady citrus. Resinous character again. Back on the palate, a touch of bitterness on yuzu. Heavy tannins. Energetic but leaning toward excessive oak.
An interesting Armagnac, full of vigor and spice, but lacking balance and finesse to reach higher scores.
My very subjective note: 85/100
