ZNO9 X CLOS DES SPIRITUEUX LONG POND 2006 17YO 60,1%
Straight to the point
First bottling of the “Geisha series” by ZNO9 for the 1st anniversary of Clos des Spiritueux, this Long Pond 2006 was distilled in Jamaica and bottled after 17 years of ageing (14yo of tropical ageing, 3yo of continental ageing). Let’s dive in.
Colour: Orange, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: High level of funkiness right from the start, driven by heavy overripe banana notes. Rich resinous shades follow, then candied citrus. A very heady profile, combining high esters and high ABV. Nice briny accents in the background, mostly on black olive tapenade.
Palate: Exuberant passion fruit notes. The alcohol is surprisingly well integrated, although a drop of water is welcome. A textbook example of Jamaican funk. Light smokiness in the background. Rich malted notes. It ends on gasoline (yes) and cloves.
Last notes: More heathery tones with air. Peach eau-de-vie. Vivid tangerine juice. Strong briny and salty impressions again, on ham and green olive cake. Back on the palate, you really feel the 17 years of patine layered over the Jamaican funk. It ends on cedarwood and roasted pineapple.
A well-balanced and clearly funky profile. Direct, expressive, and very much on point. Could it be easier?
My very subjective note: 88+/100
