1987. New Order’s album Substance was released. And this Tenareze was born.

A good spell from Tenareze?

Another vintage from Seailles, this time bottled at cask strength by a German IB, The Cask Wizard. Let’s go!

Colour: Amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Full of pinewood scents at first. Astringent brand-new wood scents, even after 20 minutes of opening. Hints of nice port wine (ruby)notes then, as you get a bunch of various sugary red fruit shades. Great nutty notes in the background, mainly on dry walnut.

Palate: A bit oily. Dusty aftertaste. Hints of yeasty notes. You find a brighter profile than expected, with candied peach aromas and a bit of warm spiced notes. A few chalky shades. Nice vegetal notes, like anise and fennel.

Last Notes: Obvious bourbon profile now. That’s quite a personal feeling, but most of the good Tenareze have this Bourbon-like DNA. Nice candied citrus notes. A bit minty in the background. I was far from expecting freshness at the very beginning of this dram, to be honest. It ends on zan and tobacco.

Rich kind of Tenareze armagnac. Complex and deep. But it could be even better with less tannins and a bit more precision. I’d rather go with the 1988 OB, to be honest.

My very subjective note: 87/100
