MALTERNATIVE BELGIUM #31 LE DÉMÉNAGEUR LOT 66GC 46,4%

Verrieres or Cognac Wonderland

Verrieres again, but not from François Voyer this time (undisclosed producer). 1966 and this kind of GC terroir, what could go wrong? Let’s go!

Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Stunning beginning! Very rum-like at first, reminding me of some funky Jamaican rums, very Clarendon-like indeed. Ample sugary fruit notes, mainly on orange peel marmalade and young banana. You feel the oak influence, but it remains well-balanced. Generous vanilla scents in the background.

Palate: Thick texture. Bang! Blackcurrant bomb! Extra-acidulous profile, with a great mouth length. Hints of cherry liquor in the background. Vivid and immediate kind of GC. Nice bitterness on orange zist and kumquat. Hints of fresh iodine notes too. Chalky GC.

Last Notes: It remains very rum-like with air. It gets oakier and earthier, reminding more of a 20yo French Indies rum now. Pleasant heady citrus scents. Hints of raw nutty notes. Back on the palate, you get back this acidulous side, with a tad of herbal shades this time.

Efficient GC. Insolent youngness for this Lot 66…Love it! Or as we say in French: ça déménage!

My very subjective note: 90+/100
