JL PASQUET LE COGNAC DE JEAN-PIERRE L75 49,8%
70s GC
Part of the Pasquet “Trésors de Famille” series, this cognac comes from the cellars of Jean-Pierre Limouzin, a long-time grower-distiller in Grande Champagne. Distilled in 1975 in the Angeac-Champagne area, it was preserved in old barrels before being bottled at its natural strength of 49.8%. Let’s go!
Colour: Dark amber with orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Beautiful fresh spice notes: white pepper, cardamom. Unmistakably GC, with sharp chalky undertones. Elegant profile. A refined mix of fresh plum and tinned apricot, lifted by opulent honeyed tones.
Palate: Rich texture. Still very spicy, not an oak-driven spice, but a fresh expression of terroir. Even if sourced from Angeac, it shows a spice/lychee character reminiscent of Mainxe DNA. Christmas spices, baked apple, and a touch of over-infused tea bitterness. Insolently youthful for a GC distilled in 1975.
Last Notes: Ample honeyed layers. Vine peach. Still incredibly vivid, no surprise for a 50yo from a “cheat-code” GC terroir. Hints of menthol and cardamom. Back on the palate, fine malted shades and a touch of raw apple.
Clearly a privileged DNA. Maybe just a bit too sharp, as if awakened from a long rest, but the pedigree shows through.
My very subjective note: 88/100
