Grateful Blend

An assemblage made from the final two casks of Jean-Luc Pasquet’s (Jean Pasquet’s father), distilled in the 1990s on the estate in Grande Champagne and bottled at 45.5%.

Colour: Dark amber with golden lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Full of toffee and caramel at first. Generous nutty notes, mainly walnut cream. Dry heathery tones, followed by vivid fruitiness on poached pear and fresh apricot. Warm spices on paprika and caraway. Reasonable oak influence.

Palate: Oily texture. Creamy vanilla notes. Fresh fruity sides, mainly on fresh pear, as an echo to the nose. Candied citrus and ginger aromas to season this rich recipe. Light tobacco notes. It ends on quince jam and honeysuckle.

Last Notes: Even rounder with air. Chocolate milk and caramel sweets. Delicate floral tones on orange blossom. Candied citrus again, with a structured but gentle palate. Subtle white pepper spice and a long, balanced finish on rooibos and cinnamon.

Nice Grande Champagne, even if I was expecting a bit more of wood integration. But I can’t complain about richness and complexity here.

My very subjective note: 88/100
