GRAPEDIGGAZ CHATEAU GRAND MAISONNAVE 1981 46%
Rustic grapes
Baco and Ugni blanc blend. Bas-armagnac. 42yo. 46%. Such a promising pedigree for this Maison Aurian bottled by Grapediggaz. Let’s go!
Colour: Mahogany, red lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Full of sherry nutty notes at first. Plum eau-de-vie. Pinewood scents. Burnt wood shades in the background. Nice chocolate notes. Ample balsamic notes too. Heavy tannins, but it seems reasonable just by the nose.
Palate: Obvious plum eau-de-vie notes now. Fresh fruity aromas on tinned pears and apple juice. Very Calvados-y by some aspects. Strong coffee note in the aftertaste. Hints of passion fruit aromas in the background.
Last Notes: Heady citrus notes with air. Massive chocolate note underlined by Christmas tea shades. Cinnamon, vanilla. Walnut cream. The dessert is ready to be served. Hints of South-West French wine, a bit like a full-bodied Madiran.
A nice kind of armagnac. Deep and ample spirit. Everything is at the right height, including the ABV. I only miss the complexity to go higher than 88
My very subjective note: 88/100
