Comandon & Co 40°

First Comandon on Hors d’Age

COMANDON & CO 40%

Terra Incognita

I don’t have much information about this sample. I guess that’s a 60-70’s bottling from Comandon, and I assume it’s a blend of different crus. NAS. 40%.  Back in the 19th century, Comandon used to be an important merchant in the cognac business. Then, they went through various acquisitions, and nowadays they’re kind of an I.B., but I’m not 100% sure about that, regarding the very small amount of information you can find about Comandon on the internet.

Colour: Dark amber, gold lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Strange volatile notes at first. Full of balsamic shades, not very pleasant to be honest. Hints of astringent scents. Shy fruity notes on poached pear and cider apple.

Palate: Full of synthetic caramel. Watery texture. Yuck. Dusty, oaky, and astringent. Oxidized notes. Unpleasant woody aromas in the aftertaste. It feels quite young but very unbalanced. Let’s be crystal clear: it seems there is a lot of make-up here.

Last Notes: Brighter than previously perceived, but it remains very imprecise. Dusty old plum eau-de-vie scents. Acidic and astringent on the palate, again.

Hope that’s due to the sample condition. Or here is my score.

My very subjective note: 70/100
