AUTHENTIC SPIRITS NAVARRE LOT 93 50,5% (Batch 1)
Unique rancio from Le Renclos
Grande Champagne, 1993, and cask strength. I’ve got a very nice cognac in mind, but here is another specific terroir of GC. This one is an exclusive bottling for Authentic (and if you’re a cognac lover, you know that IB and Navarre isn’t a common thing), and it’s a first batch (there is also a second batch bottled at 49,3%). Let’s go!
Colour: Amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Full of flowery notes at first. Elegant rancio on humid cellar and rosewater scents. It quickly gets very fruity, mainly on cherry liquor and fresh vine peaches. Kind of umeshu shades in the background.
Palate: Very oily texture. Hints of lychee aromas at first. Stunning tobacco notes. Liquid licorice sweets. Subtle herbal shades in the aftertaste. Mint tea aromas. Full of floral tones again, as an echo to the nose. Pot-pourri, rosewater, boxweed (some kind of notes you get with a nice Sauvignon blanc, like a Sancerre or a Pouilly-Fume). Licorice again.
Last Notes: Warm spiced notes. A bit more woody than previously perceived, but it remains reasonable. Ample floral notes again. Hints of violet scents. Quite a dry floral profile. I’d not go with a bold take like « it feels like some kind of Borderies ». But tasted blind…Think I rarely had a palate more licorice-y than this one…
I love Navarre style. Unique rancio and floral profile. I miss a bit of depth to score it higher.
My very subjective note: 89/100
