AUDRY RESERVE ARISTIDE 50%

Venerable GC

Another Audry today, but this time 100% GC. A 50yo+ blend bottled at 50%. Let’s go!

Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Heady rancioted notes. Full of vivid citrus scents at first. It seems that, like the Memorial, this kind of cognac needs to breathe. Very oaky. Lingering linseed oil notes. A tad of heady floral notes on potpourri and jasmine.

Palate: Oily texture. Full of cooked fruit notes at first. Prunes marmalade. Quince pie. Nice mouth length, even if I was expecting something a bit deeper with this kind of ABV. Darker profile than the Memorial cuvée. A bit astringent in the aftertaste.

Last Notes: Full of roasted scents now, mainly on coffee beans and burnt wood. Hints of floral notes again. A tad of licorice and cinnamon scents too. You get the same bunch ok cooked fruits. A little lack of precision here, to be honest. It ends on white vermouth and fresh almond aromas.

A nice kind of venerable Grande Champagne, but I miss precision and depth to go above 90 with this one. Surprisingly less convincing than the Memorial in my humble opinion.

My very subjective note: 88+/100
