AUDRY MEMORIAL 42%
Vivid Fine Champagne
I’ve got some nice memories about Audry, nothing spectacular but always a good dram, emphasizing Petite and Grande Champagne terroirs with precision. This Memorial Cuvee is made as a 40/45yo blend (Fine Champagne): 60% GC, 40% PC. Let’s go!
Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: Candied red fruit notes at first. Maraschino, plum syrup. Clean nose, everything is delivered with finesse. Fresh strawberry perfume. Hints of tropical fruits, but it remains more on the red berries side. A few cigar shades in the background.
Palate: Oily texture. Ample acidulous notes on strawberry juice. High acidity level. And is it supposed to be a 40/45yo blend? Ridiculous. Reasonable amount of oakiness. It gets funkier with this palate, whereas the nose is quite civilized. You get a tad of freshness with strong mentholated aromas. It reminds me a lot of the Vallein Tercinier Hors d’Age. Same kind of profile.
Last Notes: You get way more smoky notes with air, as you find back some nice cigar scents. Hints of citrus notes too. Full of apricot stew and tangerine juice. Still this incredibly acidulous side. It ends with toffee and liquid cherry aromas. A tad of leathery shades too.
Full of energy and chalky Fine Champagne. A bit shy in the beginning, this venerable blend owns a rich and complex DNA that’s revealing itself after some time in the glass. Solid!
My very subjective note: 90/100
