ZN09 PETITE CHAMPAGNE 73 GROSPERRIN 54,8%
Sabre Dance
First review of a ZN09 bottling here. Grosperrin and Petite Champagne, 50yo, 54,8%. Let’s go!
Colour: Dark amber, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.
Nose: A delicate rancio on orange peel and cocoa powder at first. Fresh spiced notes on cardamom and white pepper. Apricot and tomato marmalade. Refined earthy notes, as if you were entering a wet cellar. Reasonable wood influence.
Palate: Heavy licorice aromas. Hints of blackcurrant notes. Grilled bread and sesame seeds shades. Darker profile than expected but full of complexity and umami sides: soy sauce, fresh mushrooms, oxydated white wine (like a delicious Savagnin from Tissot estate).
Last Notes: Nice spiced notes on caraway and freshly grated nutmeg. Orange liquor. Everything is delivered with finesse, even with a 50%+ ABV. Hints of Borderies floral scents. Hints of malted notes too. Great acidulous aromas with air. Blackcurrant juice, violet syrup. Umami shades again, especially on mushroom broth.
Full of rancio, well-balanced, and complex Petite Champagne. Love this one. I was quite in a dilemma, hesitating between 89+ and 90. This is not the most immediate profile of an old PC (like a Lot 62 from Pasquet or a Lot 70 from Fradon. But it shows way more precision and depth than many other 50yo spirits I tried before.
My very subjective note: 90/100
