Hints of Tenareze

Seailles was one of my favorite producers when I visited armagnac land. Nice Tenareze style, a beautiful cellar, and a very relevant range from baby armagnacs to some elegant 80’s spirits (I’ve got especially two 1988 casks in mind). Let’s try this 1979!

Colour: Mahogany, red lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Intense caramel notes at first. Bourbon vanilla, candied ginger. Heavy ristretto notes. Burn wood. Not that much astringency, which is quite surprising regarding the oak influence. Hints of dry floral scents too.

Palate: Dry texture. Earl Grey notes, with a tad of astringency in the aftertaste. Nice, acidulous notes, then, particularly on violet-sweet aromas. Very Bourbon-like. Heavy tannins that stick to the palate.

Last Notes: Full of nutty notes with air. Walnut pie, walnut wine (which is very popular in some French regions). Great mushroomy rancio, always reminding me of the Grosperrin MMC3 (first batch). Charcoal, burnt wood. Full of great herbal aromas: honeysuckle, heather, dry thyme.

Oaky profile with hidden herbal shades. Surprising kind of Tenareze. Nice but less tannins please!
