MAUXION BOIS ORDINAIRES LOT 40 47%
Coastal shades
It’s not the first Mauxion on Hors d’Age, but it’s definitely the first Bois Ordinaires from this brand. Lot 40 probably refers here to 40 years old, as I assume it can’t be a 1940 from this cru. But it remains very appealing, as I’ve never reviewed something that old from BO.
Colour: Old gold, orange lights. Medium regular tears.
Nose: Warm spiced notes melted to oaky shades, especially pine wood. A nice kind of rancio with wormwood notes and tannins. Overripe melon scents. Fresh herbal notes on parsley and basil.
Palate: A tad of nutty notes at first. Strong tannins in the aftertaste. Lingering astringence on linseed oil and varnish wood. Hints of coconut powder and roasted almond aromas. Quite imprecise.
Last Notes: Brighter with air. Nice fruity notes on fresh fig and cooked apple. Hints of vegetal fresh notes, something like seaweed and iodine scents. A few mentholated notes when back on the palate, but it remains quite imprecise.
You’ve got a typical Bois Ordinaires without the precision of Grosperrin’s bottlings. But hey, that’s a 87, so not a bad dram at all.
My very subjective note: 87/100
