From Chermignac with Fruits

It’s time to taste another Bons Bois. The last one review for this cru was about a Lheraud bottling by GOTA, and it was quite convincing and that was a venerable 50yo+ too. That’s not the easiest kind of cognac to bring through decades. 55yo, 41,5%, BB. Let’s go! 

Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular medium tears

Nose: Full of candied citruses at first. Caramelized orange zest, lemon jam. Hints of licorice in the background. That’s what I like with « Bois », especially with Bons Bois. Most of the time, you don’t get the sharpness and the vivid expression of a Champagne cognac, but instead age gives a certain kind of roundness that could go really nice. And that’s the case for this lot 55. However, this is not a lumpish cognac (just with the nose impression), this venerable Bons Bois is still full of life! Warm spices shades then, caraway and paprika notes.

Palate: Very oily texture. A nice amount of acidity first, then you get a full bunch of overripe fruits like plums and peaches. Great spiced aromas, especially on cardamom (freshness) and and caraway (as previoulsy perceived). 

Last Notes: Light tannic shades with air, mainly on brand new wood scents and light cigar notes. Hints of musky tones too. A bit wilder and less fruity than the beginning. 

Very expressive kind of Bons Bois, delicate and well-balanced between freshness and fruitiness. Maybe a little lack of depth, but I don’t know many kind of BB that could reach more than 90…(I’ve got that one  in mind and particularly that one too).
