Malternative Belgium #27 Le Sourire Voyer Lot 28 41%

The last Voyer I tried here was really convincing, and moreover, I find that Pierre Vaudon’s work fits perfectly the privileged terroir of Verrieres. A nearly 100-year-old GC. That’s what we’ve got with this 27th bottling by Malternative Belgium. Let’s see if it ends with a smile!

Colour: Mahoghany, orange lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Ample leathery notes at first. I can anticipate a few acidulous shades in the background, mainly on blackberry juice. Vivid kind of cognac regarding its age. Reasonnable amount of oak. Lingering vanilla notes with air. Nice nose but it feels like it could breath even more to show its full potential. 

Palate: Very Grande Champagne-like  entrance. You get a fake austere beginning, with chalky and oaky aromas. Then there is a very surprising wave of mentholated and acidulous notes. That’s ridiculous. I mean, 1928? Really? It evolves very nicely on the palate, from mango juice to coffee beans. Maybe a little lack of complexity here. 

Last Notes: Heady citruses notes, but less precise than previouly perceived. Sandal wood scents. Back on the palate, you get creamy nutty notes and zesty aromas. Great mouth lentgh, even if I was hoping for more to be honest.

Subtle, elegant and quite vivid regarding its pedigree. Very nice kind of eau-de-vie. 

My very subjective note: 90+/100
