Jean-Luc Pasquet Journal des Kirsch L79 52,2%

Message in a Bottle

After a first Journal des Kirsch (and what a nice one!), I’ve got a bit of expectation for this second review. Petite Champagne, JLP’s cellars, L79, 52,2%. Let’s go!

Colour: Amber, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Bright malted notes at first. Full of tinned peaches and fresh apricot scents. Hints of breakfast tea smells too. Delicate nose. Nice spiced notes on cumin and paprika. Musky rancio in the background, especially on wet hay scents. Discrete red berries notes too.

Palate: Oily with extra-acidulous aftertaste. Bang! Stunning rancioted entrance on blackberry jam! Incredible mouth length following this blackberry trend (nothing to do with lame keyboardy smartphones). That’s exactly what I’m looking for in old P.C! It reminds me a bit of Cognac d’Elisabeth profile, but it’s even fruitier. Funky watermelon notes in the aftertaste.

Last Notes: Bright nose again. It’s a matter of shades, but I find a little bit of red berries fruitiness of an old Lochside (and of course La Corbeille de Fruits). Still this nice mix of hay and malted notes. Back on the palate, you get cooked tarragon notes and light Parmigiano aromas. Stunning acidulous notes, blackberry jam for a great comeback. Gorgeous P.C!

What a kind of P.C again! Massive acidulous fruitiness. Very relevant nose/palate combo. Hope someday I’ll find this bottle washing up on the shore.

My very subjective note: 91/100
