JEAN-LUC PASQUET CONFLUENCES LE COGNAC D’ERAVILLE 42,8%

Confluences Part II.

After the Très Vieille Petite Champagne, it’s time to taste its twin bottle from Confluences range. Another work of assemblage, this time with G.C cognacs from the 90’s. Here is Le Cognac d’Eraville!

Colour: Orange, gold lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Massive citruses notes at first, something between orange zest and fresh lime juice. Tangerine and candied orange. Delicious toasted scents with more air. Bitter chocolate and candied orange again. A powerful young and heady rancio on humid wood, freshly varnished wood, and musky notes.

Palate: Sweet texture with a nice opening on rounded aromas like young peaches, nectarines, apricots. This Cognac d’Eraville’s palate is sightly toasted but fruity tones are way more opulent. Tinned vine peaches and their typical acidity. Gentle aftertaste on marasquin cherry and currants. Love it!

Last Notes: With more air, this “young” G.C shows some more interesting notes. The nosing part still has a bit of rancio, but much more on fresh leather and roasted chestnuts. Still heady smells, this time on fruits liquor, especially prune and cherry ones. Massive citruses notes again, mainly on blood orange. Bitter chocolate and dry tobacco are deliciously melted in the background. Kind of sherry scents, if you’re a malt lover. Back on the palate, you get something well-balanced between roundness and acidity. Fruity aromas on raspberry and blackberry. Still some peach syrup shades. A nice menthol au-revoir. Triple bang!

This Cognac d’Eraville shows how great a “young” (around 30yo) G.C can be. Another killer from Eraville’s gang and their new “Confluences” range. Another great work of assemblage. And a solid quality-price ratio too.

My very subjective note: 89/100
