HENNESSY VSOP 40%

Classic VSOP?

The previous version of the Hennessy VSOP. It’s always interesting to taste a product from the Big Four, so let’s see if this one is convincing or not.

Colour: Orange, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: A great attack on orange zest and freshly cut wood. Toasted nutty notes, especially on hazelnut cream and a little on coffee beans. Some papery/cardboard-y notes. Few strange acidic scents. Not very pleasant. Light buttery/pastry smells. Raisins and sawdust are persisting.

Palate: Orange zest jam. Vanilla cream. And it ends very quickly. Watery texture. Pinesap. Acidic notes on lemongrass. The same cardboard-y aromas as the nose. Undistinctive aromas. Weak mouth length.

Last Notes: Burnt caramel, orange zest again. Prunes and raisins on the palate. Very sugary aftertaste, a little unpleasant.

Well, this Hennessy VSOP will probably be more relevant in a cocktail than served neat. Not a bad one, but – let’s be honest – it’s a weak one as a tasting product and it’s too sugary in my humble opinion. If I had to choose, I’d rather buy the VS than the VSOP as a better quality/price ratio.

My very subjective note: 76/100
