Grosperrin Petite Champagne N°14 40,8%

GROSPERRIN PETITE CHAMPAGNE N°14 40,8%

Ultimate PC?

I was chasing that one for a while, to be honest. Often quoted as one of the best cognacs ever tasted by the Norwegian geeks, it’s probably one of the rarest things from Grosperrin’s cellar (which is not a random cellar at all). So 1914 again. And a mysterious name behind this lot N°348: Paror. In Latin, it means carefully prepared. Don’t know if that was intended, but let’s see what has been cooked  more than a century ago.

Colour: Dark amber, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Quite shy at the beginning, begging for air and time to reveal itself. Precious wood scents, something that you only get with high-end spirits, Champions League whiskies, rums, cognac, etc. Deep wine notes. 20yo+ Haut Brion or Cos d’Estournel. Sublime nose. Heavy tannins, but with multiple shades that you can harvest with the evolution into the glass. Marvelous exotic scents on cooked banana and 30yo French Indies rum earthiness. Yeasty/lactic notes on peach yogurt. High-quality leather scents. And more to follow for sure.

Palate: Oily texture. Sublime palate. Immediate acidulous aromas of blackcurrant juice and fresh raspberry. Gorgeous mouth length on tinned peach and cardamom. Freshness, fruitiness, spiciness. Full-stack gem. Chalky and oaky aftertaste. A tad of bitter wood notes, but it turns nicely into cedarwood and eucalyptus.

Last Notes: Unreal freshness regarding its age. Earthy French Indies rum shades again. Precise, delicate. With a little less of wood influence, it could have been close to perfection. Intense dry floral perfume, mainly on potpourri. Breakfast tea aftertaste. Roasted sesame seeds. Plum clafouti. Coffee liquor. It ends on beautiful herbal aromas: mint leaves, basil, thyme. Wonderful.

Another one to store in the Louvre museum. Stunning quality. Insolent youngness. But that’s not the same level of insanity as the Grande Champagne N°22 in my humble opinion. And not the Grande Champagne N°34 level of funkiness. Nevertheless, in my own cognac language, Paror means best PC ever tasted.

My very subjective note: 92+/100
