GROSPERRIN PETITE CHAMPAGNE ANCESTRAL 45,7%

Unkown PC

Back to PC with this 2021 bottling from Grosperrin. I don’t have much information about that one. Very old PC, probably pre-WWII, and a rare kind of gem (25 liters). Let’s go!

Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Full of breakfast notes at first. Fresh bread dough. Almond milk. Fresh walnut. Dried strawberry. Ample cooked fruits scents. A tad oaky on edges, but it remains dominated by a fresh fruity bouquet. Bright profile. Maybe a little lack of precision here.

Palate: Vivid and fresh palate. Orange juice. Acidulous aromas in the background, mainly on red berries. Hints of fresh spiced notes, like white pepper and cardamom. Nice mouth length on apple pie and citrus infusion.

Last Notes: Overcooked carrots, fennel. Autumn soup scents. Nice floral notes on lilac and jasmine. It remains bright and elegant, even if I miss a bit of fruitiness now. Caramelized walnuts. Dried strawberry notes again. Great freshness again on the palate, counterbalanced by generous biscuit (speculoos) aromas.

Actually, that’s an interesting cognac. It’s elegant but lacking in funk, aromatic but lacking in shades, and complex but lacking in depth. A tad imperfect, but that’s part of its charm.

My very subjective note: 90/100
