GROSPERRIN FINS BOIS N°58 44,5%

Modern Fragrance

After the Fins Bois 1959 (thanks Runar) it’s time to taste another venerable cognac from this cru. Still from Grosperrin’s cellars, this Lot N°844 (287 liters) is a 2021 bottling. Here is the Grosperrin Fins Bois N°58!

Colour: Amber, orange lights. Heavy regular tears.

Nose: Opulent nose but already open after 5 mins into the glass. Very humid rancioted notes at first, especially on wet undergrowth and musk. Earthy and yeasty notes in the background. Strong cigar scents. Fruity and floral notes appear after 10 minutes, especially on delicate jasmine scents. Great cherry and quince liquor scents. And this fruitiness is underlined by a pleasant freshness on rosemary and honeysuckle, and a tad of citruses too (tangerine juice, blood orange).

Palate: Oily texture. Medium acidity. Full of tangerine marmalade. Very disconcerting regarding the age of this Fins Bois. It seems so young in fact. Everything is deliciously honeyed on the palate. Reasonable wood influence , mainly on linseed oil and roasted seeds. Nice mouth length on poached pear and candied orange. Nice herbal and spicy tones then, mainly on freshly cut basil and black pepper. A tad of anise and cardamom too.

Last Notes: It seems rounder with more air. Roasted notes melted to the previously perceived fruitiness. Orange zest cake notes with more air. Succulent mix of moka, cinnamon and toffee. Verbena infusion in the background. Still some herbal notes, this time on rosemary, heather and thyme. Back on the palate, you get a nice touch of fresh licorice and a great menthol wave. Tinned plums in the aftertaste. Exquisit anise mouth length. Don’t know if ever I ever taste this kind of aniseed palate before. Subtle rancioted  aromas in the background. It ends on a caraway/curry mix, roasted hazelnuts aromas and fresh grapefruit juice. Bang.

Stunning Fins Bois with a definitive youngness that you can’t anticipate. A cognac with a lot of shades, very subtle and carried by a perfect ABV (44,5%).

My very subjective note: 91/100
