Second Dudognon tasted on Hors d’Age. The first one, the Heritage, was very convincing with its generous old G.C DNA and its fruity rancio. Let’s see if this Vieille Reserve (20yo) is another “young” G.C banger. 

Colour: Old gold, orange lights. Irregular medium tears.

Nose: Full of candied citruses notes at first. Fresh and waxy. Strong nutty scents. Almond paste, roasted chestnuts. Nice fresh citruses shades in the background. Not the most expressive nose ever but it is clean and pleasant. 

Palate: Oily texture. Stunning rancioted notes on fresh vine peaches notes. Subtle lingering oakiness surrounded by nice tinned pears aromas. Reasonable mouth length but we could have expected a bit more with 43% or 46%. Light rancio on overcooked apricots in the aftertaste.

Last Notes: Slightly honeyed now. Fresh notes on eucalyptus and menthol. Still some nice nutty shades on dry walnut and almond paste. Young apricot scents also. Back on the palate, you find some nice chestnut cream notes. A little too oaky as far as I’m concerned. It ends on tinned pears and mirabelle eau-de-vie.  

Convincing G.C. However, I can’t stop myself from thinking of a 46% version of this 20yo cognac. A little less of wood structure would have been better too.
