A 50yo cognalternative distilled during WWII. 45%. Some promising data for this Darroze Domaine de Mahu 1941. Let’s see if it meets my high expectations. 

Colour: Amber, gold lights. Regular heavy tears. 

Nose: It needs air for sure. Massive wood influence on this nose. Mineral and fruity notes then. A surprising mix of dried figs and tobacco. Quite rustic for sure: sawdust. cider apple, pine wood. Slightly honeyed and licoricy. Quite calvados-y with a nice combination of apple and pear rustic scents. 

Palate: Oily texture with a tad of acidity. It does feel like a 50yo spirit. Wood wave at first. Strong impression to bite in a plank. Very licoricy. Orange zest. Strong bitterness and acidity. Very unbalanced. Good mouth length on peach syrup and orange zest caramel. Strong tobacco notes in the aftertaste. 

Last Notes: Still calvados-y with more air. Still some sawdust smells too. Cold astray scents. Linseed oil. Very young banana. Raisins and dried figs again. On the palate, roasted notes, mainly on strong chocolate aromas. Cocoa powder. Astringent cigar notes. Vague earthy notes. Balsamic notes in the aftertaste.  

Unfortunately, this one is too unbalanced. The cask has eaten the major part of the richness in this old armagnac. Too bad, because I perceived some great sides in this Darroze Domaine de Mahu 1941. It reminds some Bordeaux wines that I tried to taste after their estimated death.
