Domaine de Laburthe is a very small estate (3 hectares), and it is only planted with Baco grapes. As it’s a Haut-Armagnac, the grapes are on a very sandy soil. This armagnac has been distilled in 1976 and bottled in December 97. 

Colour: Brown, orange lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Fresh paint, vanilla stick, cinnamon at first. Linseed oil. Pinesap. It needs some air for sure. Orange blossom. Quite a heady nose. Sawdust. Few bitter chocolate notes. It turns floral and honeyed. Lavender and violet perfume. It seems very dry. Hints of caramel.

Palate: Cider apple. Acid and dry but a surprisingly sweet texture. Quite acidulous too. Blackcurrant juice. Menthol. Mint syrup. Great freshness on the aftertaste. Not the most expressive palate ever. 

Last Notes: Very tannic. Red wine scents. Red berries too, especially blackberry. Fresh leather too. Raisins, prunes, dried figs. Mango juice. Still very woody. Back to the palate, I find figs again. Young melon. Pleasant bitterness in the background. Very licoricy with more air. It ends on dry walnut and white pepper. 

Well, a pleasant armagnac with its typical dryness. Not very complex but it does the job. Far from the rich chocolate bomb that I tasted with my previous armagnac reviewed on Hors d’Age.
