Daniel Bouju Brut de Fût Royal 60%

Don’t mess with its strength !

Colour : Old gold, orange  lights

Nose : That’s quite exotic. Sugary too (brown sugar). It is brutal. I let it for 20 minutes in my glass, but it’s still wild. Orange zest marmelade. Overripe melon. Burnt caramel. There is maybe a lack of finesse. Some wine smells, it’s a bit tannic. Heady scents : fresh leather and apricots liquor. A dash of Ceylan tea. A little buttery. And burnt wood for sure.  

Palate : Syrupy texture. Orange blossom in the very beginning, immediately followed by tinned peaches. It’s exquisite ! Far less agressive than the nose, despite the high ABV (60%). It goes on prunes jam, violet syrup, dry apricots and a bit of litchi. Apple crumble. Great pastry notes here ! Hints of tobacco on the aftertaste. 

Last Notes : A full spoon of orange caramel and honey.  The nose and palate are both very licoricy. Touch of freshness with pinesap. It ends on cherry liquor, the one used to make kir. 

This Daniel Bouju Brut de Fût Royal is very interesting, maybe a little unbalanced but convincing and greedy with a rather long mouth. A particular expression of the Grande Champagne, very different from the Paul Giraud Fin du Siècle 70th Velier.
