First Montifaud on Hors d’Age ! This one is a 15/18yo cask strength (46%) Petite Champagne. Let’s taste this Montifaud Napoléon Special Cigar !

Colour: Orange, gold lights. Irregular heavy tears.

Nose: Dried prunes, cocoa powder. Quite chocolate at first. Young melons, dried apricots. Nutty scents, especially on walnut pie notes. It seems very rich from the nose part. Fig jam. Light tobacco smells.

Palate: Rich creamy texture. Spicy and fruity. Roasted plums, cinnamon. Apple pie. Delicate watermelon notes. Alcohol is perfectly integrated here and gives a nice mouth length. Great buttery and fruity aromas. Hints of floral notes in the background. 

Last Notes: With more air the rancio is evident. Obvious tobacco scents. Dried flowers, old leather. Some acidulous notes of cranberries and grenadine as a Petite Champagne stamp. Maybe the most tobacco-y cognac I’ve ever smelled. Back on the palate, it’s a great mix of peach syrup and light cigar aromas. It ends on fresh licorice and old leather. 

Not the most precise cognac ever, but this Montifaud Napoléon Special Cigar is a convincing one, with massive tobacco notes and some delicate Petite Champagne tones. With its reasonable price, that could be my perfect daily dram and a relevant pairing with a cigar (quite logical, isn’t it ?), like the Daniel Bouju Brut de Fût Royal.
