Venerable P.C

After the Napoleon Special Cigar and the XO, it’s time to taste another P.C from the Vallet family. This one is a venerable 50yo+ (an assemblage of cognacs from 1935 to 1982 according to La Cognathèque and Cognac-Expert). Here is the Château de Montifaud L50 Heritage Louis Vallet!

Colour: Amber, gold lights. Medium irregular tears.

Nose: Fruity and exotic at first. Mango and banana juice. Tinned orange zest. Some tannic scents in the background. Nuts and roasted notes, mainly on hazelnut cream and cocoa butter. A nice rancio on fresh leather smells. Quite a rich nose!

Palate: Rich and sweet texture. Heavy banana juice aromas. Bitter chocolate too. Nice bitterness on orange zest and grapefruit juice. Coconut powder. This L50 has some exotic sides for sure. Marasquin cherry aftertaste. Chocolate/liquor sweets too. 

Last Notes: With more air, it gets some young melon and honey scents. Quite flowery and peppery. Rosewater, orange blossom, shy violet perfume. Sichuan pepper with its typical freshness. Cherry syrup and bitter chocolate in the background. The palate is now full of red berries juice and almond pear. We feel a bit of the wood influence through a nice acid touch on linseed oil and sawdust notes. It ends on strong acidulous blackberry aromas. Petite Champagne you said? 

This Château de Montifaud L50 is a delicate 50yo P.C. Everything is delivered with shades. However, I found the mouth length a bit weak, especially compared to other old P.C with low ABV that I previously tasted (La Corbeille de Fruits (40,1%) for example).
