BACHE GABRIELSEN JUBILEE 60 BERGIER 40,7%
Jubilee Blend
When you work 35 years for the same company, it’s quite logical to receive a mark of gratitude. And when you reach 60 years old, that’s undoubtedly something you have to celebrate. Combine these two milestones, and you know the origin of this limited bottling (407 bottles), specially made for Jean-Philippe Bergier, Bache Gabrielsen’s master cellar. For the recipe, take a great amount of 1964 GC and add a few dashes of 1858(!) GC. That’s what I call a proper jubilee!
Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Irregular medium tears.
Nose: Ample and charming licorice at first. Stunning rancio! Mango juice, pistachio, cedarwood. Everything at the same time, but with true precision. White truffle notes in the background.
Palate: Extreme tropical fruit palate. Full of papaya and passion fruit. Crazy acidulous notes of blackcurrant, strawberry juice, and mango stew. Infinite mouth length (40,7%!). Almond milk, porcini mushroom carpaccio with olive oil, and old leather. Liquid funky rancio, or wood influence at the perfect height, which is remarkable regarding the venerable age of this blend.
Last Notes: Darker rancio with air. Burnt tarragon. Obvious herbal tones, mainly on parsley and cooked bay leaves. Delicate tea-ish shades, especially on jasmine and rooibos. A few malted scents too, reminding me of some sherry whiskies like Linkwood or even Kavalan. Crazy acidulous notes again on the palate. Hints of mentholated notes in the background. What a treat!
Fabulous venerable GC blend. But when your 2 ingredients are a 1964 GC and a 1858 GC, I mean, isn’t a cheat code recipe? I miss a little bit of finesse to go higher than 92.
My very subjective note: 91+/100
Many thanks Kieran for that gem!
