Extra Old Fine Champagne

After the Napoleon last week, it’s time to taste the Audry X.O. 50% G.C, 50% P.C. 18/20yo. 40% Let’s go!

Colour: Amber, gold lights. Regular medium tears.

Nose: Nice fruity/spiced balance at first, followed by hints of distinct chalky G.C/P.C shades. Full of cooked apples and tinned plums notes. Complex spiciness on nutmeg, cloves and ginger (with its typical freshness). A tad of oak influence on brand new wood and parquet wax. Nice nutty notes on almond paste and roasted walnuts.
 

Palate: Oily texture with dry aftertaste. Great entrance with tinned pears and roasted almond aromas. Hints of fresh licorice. Medium mouth length. Nice round notes on tangerine jam in the background. Fresh apricot and pear aftertaste. I miss a bit of complexity here but that’s a solid palate.

Last Notes: Stronger nutty shades now. Heady black pepper scents followed by tinned plum notes. Back on the palate, you get various indistinct spiced aromas. Nice fresh fig and pear juice aftertaste. You also feel the very beginning of a rancio on acidulous apricot notes and light fresh leathery shades too.

A little too oaky in my humble opinion (same as the Napoleon, maybe a little more), and a bit imprecise for the palate, but you still get a few Fine Champagne qualities in this Audry X.O.
