And Danis boomed
I’ve heard a lot about this armagnac estate, especially from rum lovers. TDL profile, exuberant aromas, especially for Folle Blanche bottlings. So let’s see if the hype relies on something…or not.
Colour: Dark amber, orange lights. Heavy irregular tears.
Nose: Splendid peach notes at first. Very rum-like, full of tropical scents. Very close to some acidulous 70’s Petite Champagne fruit bomb. Very impressive. Full of grapefruit juice scents. Insolent freshness.
Palate: Thick texture. Bang! Massive acidulous notes, following what the nose gave. Grapefruit juice, mango stew, blackcurrant syrup. Wow. I don’t remember many armagnacs that taste like that. Full of acetate. TDL-like. Easy winner. Over-infused tea aromas with its typical bitterness. Precise, atypical, and not eaten by wood. That’s a palate I won’t forget.
Last Notes: Oxydation nutty notes, a bit like in Jura’s vin jaune. But still this insolent freshness on grapefruit juice. Orange blossom. Hints of cherry liquor. Kind of “peche melba” scents. Funky acidulous palate again. Violet berlingot sweets, cola sweets, and blackcurrant juice. Damn, that’s good! It ends on basil and sweet potato notes. Hints of floral shades on rosewater and leetchi.
Is it armagnac or is it a world apart? Danis estate has its own DNA, no doubt allowed here. This acidulous craziness could be taken for a default from a technical point of view, like very high-esters rums or violet-perfume Bowmore. But from my very subjective POV, that’s something I can (easily) deal with.
And if you go above this spectacular DNA, you find a well-balanced eau-de-vie, carried by a reasonable oak influence.
My very subjective note: 90/100
